By Anyi Lemchi
DeNorsemen Kclub International ( DNKI) has called on Nigerians  especially the youths to support and ensure violence-free 2023 general elections in Nigeria.
The International President of DNKI, Engr Chidi Anokwu who stated this while addressing DNKi State, Zonal leadership and critical Stakeholders of the Kclub on Thursday, 23rd of February 2023, noted that the essence of the Stakeholders meeting is to ensure that there is violence free Elections come February 25th and March 11 in Nigeria, pointing out that the outcome of the elections will decide the future of Nigeria in the next four years.
He identified tendencies of politicians  engaging in politics of the winner takes it all as the major cause of electoral violence in the Country, adding that the high premium for political power that has resulted to making politics a do or die affairs is not good for the country and urged  the youths to distance themselves from such politicians that want to acquire political power by all means.
Engr Anokwu further enumerated the causes of electoral violence to include poverty, bad governance, poor representation of the people, poor voters education and ignorance of the implications of electoral violence, adding that electoral violence produces bad leaders , causes impunity, destruction of lives and property and economic stagnation.
In his words ” I want to  warn Nigerian youths  especially members of DNKI to shun violence as Section 131 of the electoral Act states that anybody that indulges in any act of electoral violence will be sentenced to three years imprisonment or an option of one million naira as fine depending on the disposition of the judge,  we must not engage or encourage vote buying, the future of Nigeria should be the concern of all.”
Engr Anokwu however used the opportunity to call on security agencies across the country to remain neutral and proactive in their duties in order to guarantee protection of lives and property of the citizens, noting that 2023 elections remains another rare opportunity for Nigerians to erase poverty, insecurity and maladministration in the country.
According to him, ” The choices we make on 25th of February and on 11th March 2023 will be with us for the next four years and will also determine the economic, security, sociopolitical, academic and religious condition of Nigeria in the next four  years, so we need to be careful on who to vote. We must not be part of vote buying or electoral violence. DNKI is only interested in peaceful, free, fair and transparent general elections.”
“Nigerians have suffered so much. Nigerian youths should Shun Violence, Vote Buying and other electoral offences in the forthcoming elections, I strongly believe that we can get it right this time.”
