ByAnyi  Lemchi
The Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists Imo State Council, Comrade Ifeanyi Nwanguma JP, has called on the management of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and the  Foundation For Partnership Initiatives in the Niger Delta ( PIND) to engage and train Journalists in Imo State to help in peace building in the Niger Delta region.
Comrade Nwanguma who made the appeal in his presentation at One Day Town Hall Meeting with Theme, ” Promoting Sustainable Peace & Economic Development In The Niger Delta Region, pointed out that without proper information management, peace building will be difficult to achieve in the Niger Delta region, adding that if the youths are not properly informed about policies, programmes and projects of Government and Oil Companies in their areas, the youths will resort to speculation and blackmail.
He argued that if Journalists that have the  mandate of prompt Information management are properly trained by Government and Oil Companies on peace building, it will encourage adequate and prompt information management that will encourage peace, unity and security in the Niger Delta region.
The one day Town Hall Meeting which took  place on 17th May 2023 at Bon Hotel Tripod Owerri was being organized by Foundation For Partnership in the Niger Delta ( PIND).
The workshop is inline with the MoU reached with the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs and in recognition of the importance of Peaceful coexistence as a panacea for the socio economic and political development of the Niger Delta region.
The Presidential Mandate of the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs and the Foundation for Partnership Initiatives in the Niger Delta have embarked on a collaborative partnership to develop a Niger Delta Regional Peace building Strategy (NDRPS):for the region
The NDRPS will provide a framework that is not just security focused but will drive conflict resolution efforts in the region, rather than purely focussing on containing conflict or de- escalating violent situations. The designing and institution of the peace building Strategy would provide an opportunity to adopt multi Stakeholder and inclusive approaches to conflict resolution and peace building.
Imo State NUJ Council Chairman, Comrade Ifeanyi Nwanguma JP and other participants   engaged in discussion that will recommend homegrown solutions to guide the various forms of conflict prevention and resolution in a proactive, engaging, consultative and inclusive manner.
