Ebonyi Govt Disburses farm Inputs to Afikpo farmers

From Kelechi OKORO, Ebonyi State

Ebonyi State Government, has commenced the distribution of farm inputs, to farmers in Afikpo LGA. State Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Princess Nkechinyere Iyioku, who distributed the Items,  including fertiliser, herbicides and rice seedlings, said it was part of government’s plan to boost economy, food security and job creation in the area.

At the flag of of the distribution at Afikpo LGA, Headquarters, the Commissioner enjoined people in the area, to go into massive farming, and stressed that through the People’s Charter of Needs Programme, government was determined to provide enabling environment for mechanised agriculture in the area.

She therefore called on Council Executives and the Development Centre Coordinators to make farming in the area easy and more productive, by building model farms, urging beneficiaries to make effective use of the inputs.

In his remark, Chairman of the council, Timothy Nwachi A U, thanked the Governor for his proactive measures in providing for Ebonyians, assuring he will set up a task force to ensure fair deal in the distribution.

Major stakeholders in agriculture  appreciated the Governor so highly for his interest and commitment in improving food production in the state.

Dr Mark Abani, Dr Ifeanyichukwu Madukibe Ewa, Zonal Manager EBADER, Mr Emmanuel Ibiam Ugwumba, Dr Donatus Ezeogo Aja and the traditional ruler of Amasiri, HRH Ezeogo Bassey Anya Idam, were all appreciative, urging the government to procure more tractors and other mechanised equipment, to further help in the farming cultivation.

There were series of lectures by resource persons to further educate farmers on how to use farm inputs to boost food production.
