Catholic Laity Council  Urges Uzodimma to Facilitate  Repair of Refineries

The executive members of Catholic Laity Council of Nigeria, Owerri Province, has called on the Governor of Imo State, His Excellency, Dist. Sen Hope Uzodimma, to use his double positions as the Chairman of APC Governors’ forum and South East Governors to encourage  the federal government to ensure that Nigeria refineries are repaired and put to good use.
The Laity Council made this known recently when the group led by its Owerri  Provincial President, Hon. Placid Chijioke, paid courtesy call  on the governor at Government House, Owerri, and also  used the opportunity to  present the newly elected Executives of the Laity Council to him.
Speaking at the occasion, the leader of the delegation noted that if the refineries are put to use it will drastically reduce the cost of fuel in Nigeria, hence he urged the governor to leverage on his relationship with the Presidency and ensure an overhaul of Nigeria refineries in the interest of the common man.
While appreciating the governor for the massive  road infrastructure within the state, the Provincial President   called on  him to ensure that the security challenges bedeviling the state is brought to a total halt.
He  also prayed  the governor to ensure that proper machineries  are put in place to ensure that Fuel subsidy removal palliatives get to the grassroots.
Responding, His Excellency Governor Hope Uzodimma, who himself is a Catholic, thanked the representatives of the Laity Council for the visit.
While assuring them of his continued support, he informed that the federal government has taken a decisive step towards the rehabilitation of Nigeria refineries by signing a contract with a notable firm.
 He expressed optimism that Port Harcourt refinery may become  operational by December.
The governor
 promised  that the  palliatives will be evenly distributed and will get to Imo people where ever they reside in the state.
He charged the members of the Laity Council to remain committed to the Kingdom of Christ and ensure they live the life of the gospel.
He warned those fanning the embers of insecurity in the state to stop forthwith.
Among the newly elected executives of Catholic Laity Council of Nigeria include Hon. Sir Benedict Achoromadu, Vice President, Owerri Province, Sir Victor Obiagu, Secretary, among others.
Those who were among the entourage include the Grand Patron  of Catholic Laity Council of Nigeria, Prof Maurice Iwu KSM,KGG , the National Secretary, Barr Chisara Egwim Chima and other important dignitaries.Laity Council remains the umbrella organization that manages  the lay faithful in the Catholic Church.
