Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has assured citizens of Imo State of its readiness to ensure that all electorate participate in the forthcoming November 11th governorship election in the state.
This was as the Commission said elections will hold throughout the 4720 polling units in the state including insurgency-torn Council areas including Orsu, Okigwe and others.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Prof. Sylvia Agu made the disclosure while addressing newsmen at a press briefing at the commission’s state headquarters in Owerri on Wednesday.
She disclosed that a total of 2, 318, 919 permanent voters card were collected while 101, 003 were uncollected.
According to her, the commission will engage about 21, 000 personnel to perform different functions even as she assured that they were ready.
Agu also assured over transportation logistics of election materials and officials.
Further, Agu explained that the state has 4758 polling units adding that 38 were discovered to be without voters, and have been removed.
She maintained that the commission was prepared to conduct credible election, adding that the security agencies had assured of maximum protection of personnel and voters.
Agu said “We are very prepared, we don’t anticipate any hitches or glitches. The materials will get to the polling units by 8am. We are prepared to use IREV and BVAS but we have manual as our fallback.
“We cannot collate manually, Bayelsa didn’t say so, it’s social media. Let me emphasise this, we are prepared to use IREV”, the Imo REC said.
“The Independent National Electoral Commission has recognised the strategic roles of proper transport logistics during elections and has commenced engagements with the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and the Nigerian Association of Transport Owners (NATO) through their state executives to secure an effective and efficient transportation of men and material for the elections.
This timely collaboration with the transport unions, promises to forestall all possible shortfalls or disagreements with the transporters before the critical hours”.
