South East Constitution Review Hearing:  Adaora Onyechere Sydney -Jack Puts Up Strong Advocacy For Women inclusivity in Governance … thanks Gov. Mbah, Ben Kalu , others

  BY IFEANYI NDUKWE
A fierce gender advocate and voice for inclusive governance Ambassador Adaora Onyechere Sydney-Jack, who is the South-East Zonal Coordinator for Reserved Seats Bill for Women at the South-East public hearing on the 1999 Nigerian Constitution, has put up very strong advocacy for the inclusion of minimum participation of Nigerian women in the Federal and State Legislatures in the forthcoming amendment of the constitution.
Accompanied by basically young women from across the country, Adaora stoutly highlighted the lopsided state of women representation at the Federal and State Legislatures. She thanked the Senate Committee on the 1999 Constitutional Amendment for coming out succinctly with strong women affirmation in governance in Nigeria, adding that “for the first time our Nigerian Parliament has shown good will.” She paid glowing tribute to Senator Patrick C. Ndubueze, who is the Senator representing her Senatorial District, Imo North (Okigwe).
She at the same time commended the efforts being made by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, towards actualizing the Reserved Seats Bill for Women.
While commending the Governor of Enugu State, Barr. Dr. Peter Mbah, represented by his Secretary to the State Government (SSG), for his positive position on the issue, Adaora Onyechere Sydney-Jack said: “Subsequent to our courtesy call with the Executive Governor of Enugu State yesterday, His Excellency was ably represented at the South-East public hearing by the Secretary to the State Government, who delivered powerful remark in support of the Reserved Seats for Women Bill.”
Continuing, the South-East Zonal Coordinator for Reserved Seats Bill for Women Campaign, Adaora Onyechere Sydney-Jack said: “Their endorsement underscores the growing, cross-regional consensus for this historic reform. Thank you, Enugu State, for standing with Nigerian Women as we push toward an even more inclusive democracy!”
Ambassador Adaora Onyechere Sydney-Jack also thanked all Nigerian Women who she said raised their voices to the issue on board.
