Holy Ghost  College Owerri Old Boys 1991 Set Holds AGM, Gives Back to School

The 1991 graduands of Holy Ghost College Owerri on Tuesday held their Annual General Meeting/Thanksgiving inside the school Chapel.
The AGM  was attended by members of the class from all over the country including those in diaspora also  in attendance were the Principal of the school Rev. Fr. Samuel Agu, staff and students of the prestigious college famous with immaculate white uniform and very good in march past.
The highlights of the events were :
Procurement of more state of the art kitchen equipment
Cash award presentation to the three most outstanding students in all streams of Class from JS1 to SS3.
Cash award presentation to all teaching and non teaching staff.
In his opening remarks, the President  Enyinna Onyeukwu urged the members not only to reflect on the achievements and milestones of the past  years but also on the endearing spirit that defines their alma mater.
Hon. Samuel Obodo the PRO and Secretary of the AGM Committee read the AGM report. He commended his classmates who contributed immensely for the success of the AGM.
In the report it was noted that the 1991 set had earlier built an ultra modern kitchen to their great alma mater as a way of giving back to the school that made them proud.
Other individual highlights of the event were: pledge to donate ten ceiling fans to the Chapel by the Vice President Chimezie Asinobi, scholarship to one student from SS1, SS2 & SS3 by Nnamdi Nwanekwere.
In his own response the Vice President Chimezie Asinobi encouraged other sets to emulate them in giving back to their alma mater.
He said the teachers cash appreciation is to encourage human development.
In his own response the Patron of the Association  Chief Victor Nwadike who is also a member of 1991 set said he is proud and happy  relating with his classmates whom he described as his brothers.
He said he was made Patron because of his personality and interest in the association.
He said he decided to host his classmates at his prestigious Winthrop Suites because of his love for them. He thanked them for finding him worthy to be their patron and accepting to host them.
While responding the Principal of the school Rev. Fr. Samuel Agu said since 2019 he became the Principal he has noticed remarkable impact made by the Old Boys especially the 1991 set whom he described as the best.
He commended them for the ultra modern kitchen they built for the school and also providing basic kitchen equipment including a deep freezer.
He described them as an obedient set and prayed God to bless them in all their endeavours.
Speaking on behalf of other teachers, Pastor Felix Uwakwe the Physics teacher and Mrs Onyebarachi Chizoma the Civics Education teacher commended the 1991 set for always remembering their alma mater.
They assured them that the school has quality teachers and will continue to teach
 effectively to produce good students.
Master Basil Francis who spoke on behalf of the students thanked the 1991 set for remembering their school and encouraged his fellow students to be good ambassadors of the school.
Holy Ghost College Owerri, a citadel of learning and moral discipline was founded in 1949.
It is located along Assumpta Avenue very close to Assumpta Cathedral Owerri.
The school which is owned by the Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri  has its motto as ” Recta Sapere”  meaning Right judgement or Knowing what is right.
It is one of the secondary schools in the state that has good reputation
